Silence on Wala


Captain's Log, Another day another dollar, or so the saying goes. After over three years of hauling cargo you would think that I'd get bored of this by now yet here I am waking up at the crack of dawn hauling cargo. I guess the proof is in the pudding that taking a simple task, like traveling from A to B transporting cargo, and adding in some random players to the mix, you'll get a million different results. Our goal through all this is to turn a profit, but you'd be surprised how difficult that 'simple' task can be when you add in the human variable. 

The day started out normal enough, I teamed up with Liandrix, Pyro, and Hollow and we wanted to haul some cargo. My goal was to check all four outposts on Arial and Wala. I checked both Lathan and Bezdek on my own but there was only around 100 SCU worth of Laranite. Then we staged two more cats to make the trip to Wala. Beating a few bugs via team work we arrived at Wala. Liandrix. and I were in the Best in Show Cat, while Pyro and Hollow were in the other Drake Caterpillar. Liandrix is a new player so I giving him a few pointers. I wasn't too concerned about the other Cat because both Hollow and Pyro are competent pilots. I was just explaining how to watch your speed on Wala's entry when disaster struck. 

At of the corner of my eye, I see a dark silhouette shoot across the screen. It was just a few thousand meters off the surface of the frozen moon of Wala. To my surprise it was Hollow making up for lost time attempting to get to the outpost first. As the mammoth cargo ship darts through the thing atmosphere, I hear a brief transmission over the coms. "I can't move the ship!" 

The freighter collides with the ground and goes up in a huge explosion, the shockwave sending out a bright blue-white wave. 



The moon of Wala returns back to silence and cold state. The silence is broken as the best in show caterpillar touches down, I walk in to the small outpost only to fine the Laranite supply depleted. 

"All this? And at what cost?"    

I update my log, it's been zero days since the last fatality.

Teaming up with SQ, Selwyn and Rich_Banks, we wanted to test scaling up our cargo operations to see if flying a command ship, plus multiple cargo ships would result in a faster profit per minute. The theory comes from the long transit times running to and from the buy and sell console. If we give this job to only ONE ship owner, could we spawn multiple cargo vessels while still sharing the same minimum time running from ship to console? The ideal run would have the command ship arriving before the cargo vessels to buy and sell at the trade console the second the cargo ship arrives. An added advantage is that multiple cargo ships could also be added to the route to multiply the profit of the run. Factor in the high supply and demand for some commodities, we can push them to their limits with this method. A few thoughts on Star Citizen's Reputation System

My Thoughts on the Reputation System I took the time yesterday to outline and summarize questions and answers from the AMA on the reputation system and I though I would share my results. A New Day, A New Goal

Turns out Timbur's BHAG wasn't hairy enough so we'll set a new goal. Goal: Buy two more Drake Caterpillars by 3.9.  As it turns out my big hairy audacious goal wasn't hairy enough so we'll have to up it to a Cat a week until 3.9 hits and we'll see just how many cats we can get. Let's figure we have until the end of the month for the patch to hit so that's about a week and half worth of cargo. That sounds like just enough to get another two Drake Caterpillars by 3.9. Let's make it happen! Daily Review: We did about an hour and half worth of cargo runs and that enabled us to get around 200k per caterpillar in profit. If we can keep this pace up everyday, that would mean we could add another 5 million caterpillar to the fleet every 5 days. A Caterpillar a week sounds like a great plan.
