Timbur's Log, The most valuable asset to any captain is their crew and ship. Today that principle holds true. It started with just an average cargo run, Area 18 to Wala. I teamed up with Blue_Rath who had acquired a Reclaimer but needed a pick up as he was having some quantum drive issues. We then headed to 045. The Laranite supply had recently been depleted so we stocked up on Diamond and flew to Area 18. While at port we recruited a new player to join our crew. Welcome Pwnership to discord! He is a brand new player to Star Citizen, has been playing for the past 24 hours straight! He said he needed some credits as he ran into a few bugs trying to do a delivery mission, having struggled a few hours to earn 7500 credits, so we thought to give him a hand. We load up the Caterpillar and do our second run. This time it had a full stock of Laranite. Again Blue Rath is flying and lands the ship nicely in the hanger. At this point SQ is running into a few issues getting out to Area 18, so we load up some scrap to pick him up at Port Olisar. We also meet up with Dewd who offers to fly escort. We then head down to Tram & Myers, homebase. Dewd lets us know of a constellation just out of range, unknown contact, so it doesn't appear that anyone is online. Blue brings the ship down, and then over comms Dewd relys that a 600i is approaching fast. The caterpillars empty on the ground at this point so we man the turrets to prepare for the worst. The owner runs out and into the outpost to pick up a box mission. Since I'm in the building I try comms and and player turns out to be friendly. We load up the ship and head depart.
Blue stepped away for a moment so I was flying, we headed out of the atmosphere, calibrated the jump, spooled the quantum drive, and engaged the jump.
Then the game crashed.
I hear over discord a a few other members on the ship had also crashed out. Our escort Dewd was still online and had a visual on the ship as it sailed out of atmosphere on the same course, now fully laden with Laranite and Diamond, now crewed only by the newest member. The rest of us who crash frantically try to rejoin the instance and with luck, but it's not all good news. SQ gets back online, but my game stays stuck in the loading screen while my avatar is in the pilot seat of the ship. I know I can't just hit backspace, that will blow up the ship and all it's cargo to nothing, I could leave the seat, but with no one piloting the ship who knows where it will head to, if the ships offline, it'll head straight to the ground We decide first to get the ship into orbit before trying anything else. I fly the ship, now only seeing the loading screen with Dewd directing me as he can see the ship from his ship. We get the ship in orbit and now I have to transfer the controls to Pwnership, as my avatar walks blindly through the ship. Pwnership spools up the drive and goes to quantum, but it doesn't jump. There apears to be some kind of bug preventing the ship to go to quantum.
Resetting my character with hopes to respawn at Olisar to fly back out the the ship my screen goes black and SQ informs me that I've spawned, somehow, in the co-pilot seat. With the current glitch in game, sitting in the co-pilot seat prevents the pilot from controlling the ship. It's a common and annoying bug, but we work around it by not having anyone sit in those seats or engineering consoles. SQ is then able to shoot my avatar in the head giving controls back to the pilot, but then everyone crashes out to desktop.
At this point we're about ready to write this cargo mission off as a total loss, but we all manage to spawn back into the game using the rejoin instance feature. This time I spawn back in the Caterpillar, and get back to the command module to fly the ship. I go to quantum and again my console crashed to desktop, I join back in again, back in the pilot seat but stuck in the loading screen. Dewd is back in game, spawning in his ship, EVA's over to the caterpillar, but can't open the door, still being in the pilot seat I open and close the doors to get him in. I get out of the pilot seat and he gets in, but again isn't able to quantum jump. We switch the pilot seat with everyone, but I stay in the loading screen this time to prevent my avatar from spawning in the co-pilot seat. Then, after cycling the power to the ship, Pwnership, is able to get the quantum drive to work and it jumps to port Olisar. Now only within a few kilometers from Olisar we may be able to land the ship. The newest member of the crew gently flys the ship and lands on the pad! We've done it! Mission accomplished. I respawn at Port Olisar, sell the cargo, and pay the crew. Overall we made 441,000 credits and we managed to salvage that a ship full of Laranite and Titanium, and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat thanks to the quick work of every crew member. Each member was awarded 88,000 credits a piece, and today they earned it!
Special thanks to Blue_Rath, Dewd, SQ, and Pwnership. I hope to see you in the verse again soon!
As of today we've earned over 7 million credits in the 3.6.0 patch, with losses of around 2 million, (but those loses didn't make a dent!) And we're on track to adding another caterpillar to the fleet if we can just find the right pilot. With the help of Rich Banks we made 941,000 credits as of this morning today.
Keep in mind, part of those gains were paid to crew, so we'll need to pool all of our funds together by the end of the week to buy the caterpillar, plus the credits needed to fill now three caterpillars. Counting the cost of cargo, for Rich, myself, and the new cat, plus the cost of the new cat we'll need 9.1 million.
That new caterpillar will cost 4.7 million, and the cargo is 1.5 million per Caterpillar.
